Andrew D Busch Formerly of Thrivent

Family Broker Fraud

According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, ANDREW DAVID BUSCH (Andrew D Busch), a former broker with THRIVENT MANAGEMENT, INC. of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, was discharged in April of 2023 from Thrivent following the allegations of, “The RRs (registered representative’s) association with the Firm was terminated for misrepresenting to the Firm the authenticity of customer signatures on a form which led to a financial benefit to the RR. RR also violated Firm policy regarding lending arrangements with immediate family.”

FINRA’s BrokerCheck, available to the public on FINRA’s website, also stated that Andrew D Busch has been in the securities industry for 8 years.  Busch is currently not registered with any firm.  He was only registered with one firm, THRIVENT MANAGEMENT, INC. of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, from 12/22/2014 to 05/01/2023.  He has one disclosure on his FINRA CRD report, the “Employment Separation After Allegations” from Thrivent in April of 2023.

According to FINRA’s website, Regulatory Notice 22-18 states in part that FINRA has received an increasing number of reports regarding registered representatives forging or falsifying client signatures, and signatures of colleagues or supervisors, through third-party digital signature platforms. Firms have identified signature issues involving various forms, including account opening documents and updates, account activity letters, discretionary trading authorizations, wire instructions and internal firm documents related to the review of client transactions.

FINRA states that these types of incidents underscore the need for member firms that allow digital signatures to have adequate controls to detect possible instances of signature forgery or falsification. FINRA reminds all firms that it is a firm’s duty of supervision to include the responsibility to identify and respond to “red flags” or suspicious activity that suggest misconduct may be occurring.
