INVESTOR ALERT: Claims Against Citigroup Global Markets Inc. Brokers Becky Woo, John Kelly

Citigroup Global Markets Inc. (CRD#: 7059, New York, New York) is both a FINRA-regulated brokerage firm and SEC-regulated investment advisory. The firm, established January 25, 1960, discloses an alarming rate of regulatory events and arbitrations on FINRA BrokerCheck. Specifically, regulators have taken disciplinary action against the firm 528 times for violating regulatory rules or securities laws. Also, in as many as 638 cases, the firm has been ordered to pay customers compensatory damages because of the firm’s sales practice violations. But there’s more than just 638 arbitration actions against Citigroup. Indeed, many more customer complaints and arbitrations are ongoing or settled without the firm’s admission of liability. For example, check out the disclosures of brokers Becky Woo and John Kelly.

Citigroup Broker Becky Woo Barred By FINRA For Failure To Respond To FINRA Requests

Becky Woo (CRD#: 4022781, New York, New York) was a Citigroup Global Markets broker who FINRA barred from the securities industry pursuant to Rule 9552(h). Apparently, Becky Woo worked at the firm’s New York, New York offices from December 17, 2012 to January 5, 2017. Notably, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (“FINRA”) BrokerCheck Report for Becky Woo shows that she did not respond to FINRA’s request for information.  Supposedly, FINRA suspended Becky Woo in May 2017. FINRA mentioned that Becky Woo would have needed to make a request to FINRA for her suspension to be terminated. Evidently, Becky Woo failed to make that request or could have stopped responding to FINRA altogether. Because of this, in July 2017, FINRA converted Becky Woo’s suspension into an indefinite bar in all capacities.

Citigroup Broker John Kelly Resigns While Under Investigation For Altering Customer Forms

John T. Kelly (CRD#: 5959098, New York, New York) is a former general securities representative of Citigroup Global Markets, Inc. Mainly, the firm disclosed on FINRA BrokerCheck that John Kelly submitted his voluntary resignation from Citigroup Global Markets during a time that the firm suspected him of misconduct. Specifically, on April 8, 2016, the firm determined that John Kelly possibly changed or impermissibly altered customer account forms after customers signed them. Citigroup indicated that another registered representative of the firm handed John Kelly blank documents that clients signed. Supposedly, those documents were supposed to be completed by clients for them to be valid, but they were possibly completed by John Kelly instead. As a result, it is possible the customer(s) did not know or consent to their investment transactions. Currently, John Kelly is a general securities representative of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.
