Former Broker Employed by 'Investors Capital' Charged with Wire Fraud

PATRICIA S. MILLER (CRD# 2302464) formerly registered representative with Investors Capital in McMurry, Pennsylvania, a branch of Massachusetts-based Investors Capital Corporation, was arrested and charged with wire fraud. Several of her clients claim she allegedly misappropriated their investments worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. According to the court records, Miller attempted suicide and was slumped at her desk when the FBI came to her office. The FBI found a note to her family saying she had lied to them for 12 years and stolen money from clients.

Investors Capital is responsible for overseeing their registered representatives. According to investigations into Investors Capital, this company has paid millions of dollars in fines for failing to supervise it's brokers. This past March, Investors Capital was fined $100,000 by FINRA for failing to maintain it's supervisory system. In 2010 they were fined $300,000 also for failing to supervise brokers. In 2006, Investors Capital paid $1 million for failure to supervise and allowing agents to act as unregistered representatives.

Investors Capital has an obligation to protect it's clients. Investors Capital has 400 nationwide branch offices with 500 "independent" registered representatives. Often these offices lack supervision, as seen in the case of Patricia S. Miller.

According to FINRA's BrokerCheck, Patricia S. Miller was previously registered with the following FINRA firm(s):
