Jorge A. Sonville Discharged from Merrill in Miami

Investment Loss

JORGE ANTONIO SONVILLE (JORGE A SONVILLE) CRD#: 2558540, had been previously registered both as a broker and as an investment advisor with Merrill Lynch of Miami, Florida, for 26 years.  According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, on June 10, 2021, JORGE A SONVILLE, was discharged from Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated, following allegations of, “Conduct including participation in a financial arrangement with a client and failure to disclose an outside business activity.”
According to a recent article in AdvisorHub, JORGE A SONVILLE, had previously been singled out but not named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by a former client, in their 80s, against Merrill Lynch. The client alleges that Merrill Lynch failed to supervise Sonville, who persuaded them beginning in 2015 to invest nearly $5 million, most of it from a trust for their retirement, in a Key Biscayne liquor store that sold in 2020 for $585,000.
The article also states that the lawsuit alleges that either JORGE A SONVILLE or his spouse held an undisclosed interest in the liquor store, which resulted in payments to them of approximately $70,000. In November 2020, a U.S. District Court in Miami granted Merrill’s motion to compel the client to arbitrate his claims and stayed the litigation.
According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, which is available to the public on FINRA’s website, JORGE A SONVILLE, has been in the securities industry for 26 years and has 3 disclosures on his FINRA CRD report.  He is currently not registered. Sonville has only been listed with the following firm:
