On 11/1/2024 there was a “Customer Dispute” filed against SIOBHAN M SHAUGHNESSY with the allegations of, “Time frame: 2008 and 2022 Claimants allege that account used to collateralize a line of credit was unsuitably allocated in equities. Claimants further allege that the overall investment strategy was not in their "Best Interest.”  This dispute is still pending.  The damage amount requested is $1,000,000.00.

On FINRA’s website it states that the SEC's Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI) under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, establishes a "best interest" standard of conduct for broker/dealers and associated persons when they make a recommendation to a retail customer of any securities transaction or investment strategy involving securities, including recommendations of types of accounts.

FINRA states that under the care obligations, investment advisors, broker/dealers, and their financial professionals need to understand the investments and investment strategies on which they provide advice and recommendations before advising on or recommending them to retail investors. This includes developing a sufficient understanding of the potential risks, rewards, and costs of the investment or investment strategy to have a reasonable basis to believe that the recommendation or advice could be in a retail investor’s best interest.
