Equitable Advisors Client Accuses Camille Cordova Of Unsuitable Recommendations
Evidently, an Equitable Advisors client filed FINRA Arbitration #: 20-03050 about Camille Cordova. Specifically, the client alleged that Cordova made unsuitable recommendations. Because of this, the client claims that they experienced damages relating to investments in variable annuities. Therefore, on November 15, 2021, Equitable Advisors settled this matter by paying the client $312,500.
FINRA Sanctions Cordova
Specifically, FINRA says that Cordova made unsuitable recommendations during the time that she was associated with Equitable Advisors LLC. At issue were the tax implications surrounding a variable annuity that Cordova and another representative recommended for a family trust formed by a senior married couple.
Cordova and the other representative recommended that the trust purchase the variable annuity by making withdraws from the trust's indexed annuity. Cordova and the other representative knew that the purchase would not be suitable for the trust if there were negative tax implications. However, Cordova and the other representative did not sufficiently research if there was a way to complete the purchase without negative tax implications. Ultimately the withdraws triggered a negative tax implication for the trust. For this reason, FINRA states that Cordova violated FINRA Rules 2010 and 2111.
