Investors potentially experienced sales practice violations because of securities broker Mario Hank [CRD: 6723996, Houston, Texas], according to disclosures on FINRA BrokerCheck. Evidently, Mario Hank registered with Banorte Securities International, Ltd. since December 20, 2016, and worked with Banorte Asset Management Inc. since December 7, 2021. Below, you can find out more about the securities broker’s disclosures and the client complaint that led to a financial settlement.

Banorte Securities Investor Accused Hank Of Excessive Fees

Specifically, a client filed a complaint about Mario Hank. The client alleged that Hank was unclear in communicating details about the amount of interest earned on certain investments. Because of this, the client allegedly sustained damages on government bonds. Therefore, on September 18, 2024, Banorte Securities International, Ltd. settled this matter by paying the client $20,043.38 in damages.

This dispute arose after the client raised concerns about the transparency of yield calculations on U.S. Treasury securities purchased through Banorte. The client reportedly felt misled after learning that markups, which impact investment yield, were not sufficiently clarified.

Understanding Allegations Of Excessive Fees Or Markups

An allegation of excessive fees or markups typically means that a broker or financial advisor charged costs that were higher than what would be considered fair or reasonable for a given transaction. These fees can significantly reduce an investor’s return, especially when they are not clearly disclosed or justified by the service provided. Excessive markups on securities such as bonds can be especially problematic, as they directly reduce the yield or return an investor earns from those investments. In such cases, clients may not realize that they are overpaying until after the trades are complete.
