A Pending Branch Office Redemption Claim Against Mark Snyder

The claimant filed this case against Mark Snyder under docket number 26-0206314. The disclosure names Osaic Wealth as the firm and lists alleged damages of $311,854.

Its description on BrokerCheck says the claimant came to the branch office and redeemed his $215,000 in accounts. These are the claimant's allegations in a pending case. Snyder and the firm can respond in the arbitration.

How Suitability Applies To Alternative Investments

Alternative investments include products such as non-traded REITs and private placements. Many do not trade on an exchange. Some limit when an investor can cash out, and fees often run higher than for listed funds.

FINRA's suitability rule asks whether a recommendation fits the customer's investment profile. That profile covers age, income, goals, time horizon and risk tolerance. Suitability also looks at concentration, meaning how much of an account sits in a single product or category.

When we review a claim like this, we start with the new account form and the statements from the period in question. The estate dispute on Mark Snyder's report turned on this kind of allegation.

Mark Snyder's Statement On The Royal Alliance Associates Estate Claim

An estate for a deceased client filed the earlier claim on January 22, 2019. The disclosure names Royal Alliance Associates as the firm. According to BrokerCheck, the estate alleged that alternative investments were not suitable and sought $100,000. Under docket 19-00242, the case settled on February 10, 2021 for $7,500.

In a statement on BrokerCheck, Mark Snyder said the estate "isolated specific underperforming investments and disregarded entire account gains." He added that his broker-dealer settled the claim for a sum "far less than cost to arbitrate" what he called a "baseless claim." A settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
