Matthew O. Clason Charged by SEC

Matthew O. Clason, a broker currently with LPL Financial and a financial advisor with Integrated Wealth Concepts, both of Glastonbury, Conneticut, was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in an emergency action, with allegedly stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from an advisory client.
In a recent article in InvestmentNews, it stated that the SEC sought an asset freeze, permanent injunctive relief and disgorgement plus prejudgment interest and civil penalties.  The complaint alleged that the client did not know about nor approve the withdrawals, and did not receive the money that Matthew O. Clason had withdrawn from the client’s account.
According to the SEC, from February of 2019, Matthew O. Clason allegedly stole more than $300,000 from a retired 73-year-old advisory client. The InvestmentNews article stated that in the SEC complaint, Clason allegedly liquidated securities in the client’s accounts, transferred the proceeds of the sales to a bank account he had held jointly with the client for investment purposes and to facilitate the payment of monthly expenses. Clason then allegedly withdrew the client’s cash from the account on several occasions and at different bank locations.
According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, Matthew O. Clason, has been registered in the securities industry for 16 years and was listed with 4 firms.
