Damon Mapes Faced Cetera Investment Services Investor’s Unsuitable Advice Dispute

Investors apparently complained about securities broker Damon Merrill [CRD: 4011748, Hillsboro, Oregon], according to public information located on Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) BrokerCheck. Mapes worked for Cetera Investment Services LLC from February 28, 2013, to March 20, 2020, and from June 10, 2020, to December 21, 2020, and he later registered with LPL Financial LLC beginning March 29, 2021. Cetera Investor Accused Mapes Of Overconcentration

Evidently, a Cetera Investment Services LLC client filed FINRA Arbitration No. 24-00253 about Damon Mapes. Primarily, the client alleged that Mapes overconcentrated accounts and made unsuitable recommendations involving alternative investments. For this reason, the client allegedly sustained damages associated with real estate investment trusts. Therefore, on July 3, 2025, Cetera Investment Services LLC settled this matter by paying the client $25,000 in damages.

Particularly, a client of Merrill Lynch contested Damon Mapes’s sales practices, according to a complaint. Allegedly, Mapes made unsuitable recommendations. It appears that Mapes allegedly caused the client to sustain damages related to mutual funds. Consequently, Merrill Lynch opted to settle the matter on October 29, 2001, by compensating the client in the amount of $20,000.
