Investors reportedly complained about securities broker Jason Peter Doneth (also known as Jason Peter Daneth) [CRD: 4696330, Salem, Oregon], according to publicly available information on FINRA BrokerCheck. It appears that Doneth worked for LPL Financial LLC from February 13, 2004 to May 21, 2015, and joined Ameriprise Financial Services LLC on May 15, 2015. Keep reading to find out more about the allegations made against this broker.

LPL Financial Investor Accused Doneth Of Unsuitable Recommendations

Specifically, on October 28, 2024, an LPL Financial LLC client filed Civil Action No. 24CV463648 about Jason Doneth. Mainly, the client alleged that Doneth made unsuitable recommendations. Because of this, the client allegedly experienced damages connected to variable annuities. Therefore, the client requested $550,000 in compensation from LPL Financial LLC or Doneth. Evidently, this civil suit is pending a resolution.

What Is Unsuitable Variable Annuity Advice?

When a securities broker or financial advisor makes an unsuitable recommendation, it means the advice given does not match the investor's profile—including their goals, risk tolerance, financial needs, or investment experience. Variable annuities are complex and often long-term products. When brokers recommend these without fully considering whether the product is right for the investor, it can lead to significant financial harm. Allegations like this often arise when clients are placed into products that are overly risky, expensive, or incompatible with their investment strategy.
