Former Minnesota Merrill Lynch broker, JOHN M JAMES, Barred by FINRA

JOHN M JAMES (JOHN JAMES) CRD#: 4609872 has been barred by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Inc. (FINRA) for allegedly not appearing at a FINRA hearing regarding activities that included borrowing money from clients.
Merrill Lynch filed a Form U5 in 2016 which reported that JOHN M JAMES resigned while he was under internal review for allegedly engaging in undisclosed outside business activity, making private investments, and borrowing money from clients. FINRA was investigating those alleged activities.
According to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, JOHN M JAMES has 4 Disclosures on his report.  James began his career in securities with Piper Jaffray in Wayzata, Minnesota in 2003. He joined Merrill Lynch, also in Wayzata, Minnesota, in 2006. He then went to Stifel, Nicolaus in Golden Valley, Minnesota, in 2016.  He was terminated from Stifel, Nicolaus in September of 2016, according to FINRA’s BrokerCheck, for providing “inaccurate information on his employment application with member firm regarding the status of an internal inquiry at his prior firm.” He resigned from Merrill Lynch in March of 2016, for allegedly “engaging in undisclosed outside business activity/private investments and borrowing money from clients.”
FINRA has barred JOHN M JAMES from acting as a broker or otherwise associating with a broker-dealer firm. JOHN M JAMES was in the securities industry for 13 years and was listed with 3 firms, the two most recent are listed below:
03/02/2016 - 09/28/2016 STIFEL, NICOLAUS & COMPANY INC. - GOLDEN VALLEY, MN
06/16/2006 - 03/24/2016 MERRILL LYNCH, PIERCE, FENNER & SMITH INC - WAYZATA, MN
