Their allegations are unproven, and no arbitrator has ruled on them. The same report lists a much older settled dispute at Woodbury Financial.

The Pending Non-Traded REIT Allegations Against Tim Clairmont

According to BrokerCheck, the claimants allege that Tim Clairmont recommended an unsuitable investment and misrepresented its risks. The pending claim carries docket 25-01282 and lists alleged damages of $100,000. Its product label reads non-traded REIT or real estate.

Under FINRA's process, the broker and the firm can each answer a claim in writing before any hearing.

Why A Non-Traded REIT Has No Daily Market Price

A non-traded REIT owns real estate but does not list its shares on an exchange. Investors can't check a daily market quote. Instead, the sponsor publishes an estimated value from time to time.

Selling shares often depends on a limited repurchase program, and the board can change it. In our experience, the offering documents and the customer's signed forms frame these disputes early. This background is general and says nothing about the investment in the Tim Clairmont claim.

Tim Clairmont's 2004 Woodbury Financial VUL Complaint

An older dispute on Tim Clairmont's report goes back to April 29, 2004. Clients alleged that he recommended an inappropriate investment and used high pressure sales tactics in writing VUL policies dated 07/11/01. They requested a full refund of all premiums paid.

Alleged damages reached $18,900. Woodbury Financial is the firm on that disclosure, and the matter settled on September 23, 2005, for $16,783. A settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.

Variable universal life combines a death benefit with subaccounts that move with the markets. Part of each premium goes to insurance charges and fees, so early cash value can sit well below the premiums paid.
