What Sits Behind The Label Alternative Investments
The phrase alternative investments is a broad industry label. It can cover limited partnerships, direct participation programs, non-traded real estate and other holdings without a public market.
A partnership generally passes income and losses through to its investors. Buyers usually can't sell easily, and a program may run for years. Fees and commissions also come out early.
When we review a claim over alternatives, we start with how much of the account went into them. Joseph Langlois's disclosure uses this label, and this background is general only.
