FINRA suspended securities broker Jonathon Mark Webster (also known as Jon Webster) [CRD: 1286778, Carlsbad, California], and investors complained about him, according to public information located on Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) BrokerCheck. Jonathon Webster worked for Stifel Nicolaus Company Incorporated from December 6, 2019, to February 15, 2024. See the following information to find out more about the disclosures involving Jonathon Webster.
FINRA Sanctioned Jon Webster For Reg BI Violations
Particularly, on January 22, 2026, FINRA issued Case: 2024081346101 sanctioning Jonathon Webster for infractions. Specifically, Webster was suspended from associating with any FINRA member firm in all capacities for seven months. FINRA alleged that Webster willfully violated Rule 15l-1(a)(1) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (Regulation Best Interest) and FINRA Rule 2010 by recommending higher-cost trades that were not in his clients’ best interests.
From November 2023 to December 2023, Webster recommended that 19 retail clients, including at least 13 seniors, carry out a short-term “January Effect” strategy involving the purchase of ten stocks in December through commission-based brokerage accounts instead of their existing fee-based advisory accounts. This resulted in $121,725.58 in commissions that would not have been charged in the advisory accounts. FINRA determined that Webster did not have a reasonable basis to believe this approach was in the clients’ best interests.
Stifel Nicolaus Disaffiliated With Jonathon Webster For Inappropriate Trading
Additionally, on January 18, 2024, Stifel Nicolaus disaffiliated with Webster. Evidently, Stifel Nicolaus alleged that Webster executed transactions in commission-based accounts for clients even though those transactions should have been placed in the clients’ fee-based accounts.
Jon Webster Disclosed Unsuitable Recommendations Allegations By Wells Fargo Advisors LLC Client
Specifically, a client of Wells Fargo Advisors LLC disputed Webster’s sales practices by filing FINRA Arbitration No. 10-02219. Allegedly, Webster made unsuitable recommendations involving variable annuities in the client’s accounts. It appears that Webster allegedly caused the client to sustain damages. Consequently, Wells Fargo Advisors LLC agreed to settle the matter on March 8, 2012, by compensating the client in the amount of $200,000.
